A controversial post claimed that men only need to appear wealthy to attract women, without actually spending money. In support, one comment stated, “Most Nigerian women are from poor backgrounds; they believe a man who drives a car is rich. Women fall easily for men on car steering even if they are not the car owner.”

This response is problematic because it relies on classism and sweeping stereotypes. It portrays Nigerian women as naïve, materialistic, and driven solely by appearances, while ignoring individuality, discernment, and personal values. It also equates poverty with lack of intelligence and reduces attraction to deception rather than mutual interest.

Such comments shift responsibility away from dishonesty and instead ridicule women, reinforcing gender bias and social prejudice. Attraction and relationships are far more complex than cars, money, or background, and reducing them to stereotypes only deepens misunderstanding and hostility.
