The NDLEA recently arrested three drug traffickers in Lagos, but instead of focusing on the crime, one user decided to drag ethnicity into the matter by commenting, “Yoruba people and quick money.” This is a dangerous stereotype that unfairly labels an entire tribe based on the actions of individuals. Crime has no ethnic boundary — drug traffickers have been caught across all regions of Nigeria. Such tribal remarks not only deepen division but also distract from addressing the real issue: drug trafficking itself. Condemning individuals for their crimes is valid, but painting a whole tribe guilty is unjust.
