After the NDLEA arrested a mother and son for dealing in cannabis, one offensive comment read: “Yoruba and drugs.” This is a clear example of harmful stereotyping. Crime is not tied to any tribe—people from all ethnic groups have been caught in illegal activities. Labeling an entire tribe as drug dealers because of the actions of a few is unfair and dangerous. Such comments fuel ethnic hate, deepen division, and distract from the real issue: individuals making poor choices. Instead of pushing tribal bias, the focus should be on justice, rehabilitation, and tackling the root causes of drug abuse and trafficking.
