A woman shared a story about helping another lady secure a job, only for the beneficiary to later sleep with her boss in an attempt to advance her career. When the situation collapsed and she was eventually dismissed, the woman who helped her expressed disappointment and distanced herself from the issue.
One insensitive comment reacted by blaming her instead, saying: “That how you support women abi, instead of you to call the boss.”
This response is misguided. It unfairly shifts responsibility from the individuals involved to a third party who had no authority or control over the workplace. Supporting someone does not mean covering up unethical behavior or intervening in matters beyond one’s role. Accountability lies with the boss who abused power and the employee who made poor choices—not with the person who initially offered help in good faith.
